Our Moving Company Rates Per Hour
Almost every local move in Canada is billed by the hour, and the hourly rate is set by one thing: how many movers are on your job. Here’s what we charge, and what you should expect to pay anywhere in the industry if a quote is far below this range.
Home size is one of the biggest factors in Calgary moving cost because it usually controls how many items need to be moved, how many movers are needed, and how long the job will take. A studio apartment with basic furniture may be completed in a few hours, while a large family home with basement storage, garage items, patio furniture, and packed boxes can take most of the day. Movers also look at the layout of your home, the distance between the truck and the door, stairs, elevators, and whether furniture needs to be disassembled.

How Are our Moving Costs Calculated in Canada?
Using a moving cost calculator in Canada will help you understand that your moving quote will depend on many factors when it comes to a certain number. First of all, it is distance from point A to point B. You have to keep in mind that if our truck moves along HWY 1 only, you will have one quote but very often moves are done in northern parts of any Canadian province. So in this case there will be additional route off charge that will include additional mileage and, of course, additional fuel surcharge. Secondly. Fuel surcharge will be calculated all the way from the pick up address to your destination point . Additional amount for the fuel charge will be added if the truck heads off the route. That will be explained to you when discussing the charges. Thirdly. It is your shipment volume itself. The quotes differ significantly for the customer moving a 2 bedroom apartment or for the one moving a 4 bedroom house.
Additional factors included in moving costs in Canada
Long walking distance charge: Applies when the walking distance is more than 40 feet. Stairs charge when moving to/out of the building with no elevator. The customer should give our moving consultant all the details about the access to the pick up/drop off locations. If this information is not disclosed and the moving crew spends way more time loading or unloading, an additional charge will be added to the existing quote automatically.
Heavy items: All long distance/province to province moving companies have a scale for lifting certain items . It may be a piano, treadmill, safe or any other nonstandard item being moved.
Packing service: If a customer is not ready with their packing on the loading day the crew may help them with that packing service and additional labor hours and packing materials (boxes, packing tape, bed bags, shrink wrap etc) will be implied to the quote.

How much do movers cost in Canada?
For a local move, expect $149–$275 per hour depending on crew size — roughly $450–$700 for a studio and $1,500–$2,300 for a 3-bedroom house. Long-distance moves between provinces run from about $2,900 for a 1-bedroom on a short corridor (Calgary–Vancouver) up to $15,000+ for a large house moving coast to coast. GST or HST is added on top, based on your destination province.
How much do movers cost per hour?
In 2026: $149–$169/hr for 2 movers with a truck, $195–$219/hr for 3, and $245–$275/hr for 4. Most companies (including us) bill a 3-hour minimum, then in 15-minute increments, plus a one-time truck fee of $99–$149. When comparing companies, multiply the rate by their estimated hours — the total matters, not the rate.
How much do movers cost in Calgary?
Calgary rates match our national table: $149–$275/hr by crew size. A 1-bedroom apartment move typically lands at $600–$850; a 3-bedroom house at $1,500–$2,300. Airdrie, Chestermere, Okotoks and Cochrane are billed at the same rates; a travel charge applies beyond the metro area and is stated in your written quote.
How much does it cost to move a whole house across Canada?
Vancouver → Toronto, our longest regular route, runs $7,200–$9,800 for a 2–3 bedroom home and $10,500–$15,000 for 4+ bedrooms, delivered in 8–14 days. Maritimes to BC is the priciest lane at $9,000–$12,500 for an average household. Weight drives the price — purging before you pack is the single best way to cut it.
How much does commercial or office moving cost?
Locally: $900–$1,600 for a small office (5–10 workstations), $1,800–$2,900 for 10–20 workstations, from $3,200 beyond that. We quote offices after a walkthrough because elevator bookings, after-hours requirements and IT teardown matter more than floor area.
Are moving expenses tax deductible in Canada?
Often, yes. If you move at least 40 km closer to a new work location, a new business, or full-time post-secondary studies, the CRA lets you deduct eligible moving expenses on Line 21900 — your movers’ invoice, packing, storage, travel, and even some costs of breaking a lease. Keep every receipt; we itemize our invoices so the claim is straightforward.
What's the cheapest month to hire movers?
January and February. Rates and availability are at their best, and the identical move can cost 25–35% less than in July. Year-round, mid-month and mid-week dates beat month-end weekends, because leases across Canada turn over on the 1st and the 15th.
Do movers require a deposit?
Reputable movers take a small deposit to hold your date — typically $100–$300 locally and 10–25% on long-distance moves, refundable with reasonable notice. Be careful with anyone demanding a large cash deposit: the Canadian Association of Movers flags that as one of the most common scam patterns in the industry.
How do I get an accurate long-distance moving quote?
Send an inventory — photos or a short video walkthrough — so the mover can convert it to weight and volume. A proper written quote states the estimated weight, the rate, and every surcharge for your specific addresses, and says whether it’s binding.
