Main steps to moving from Toronto to Edmonton
The main stages of moving from Toronto to Edmonton include:
- Packing service:
On the packing day the crew arrives at the pick address with our packing supplies.
The foreman assigns an area to pack for every member of the crew.
Kitchen, as you know, is the most time -consuming area to pack. Every plate, cup or any other fragile items are wrapped individually in paper layers. 1 or 2 , sometimes even 3. Every relatively heavy item gets wrapped in bubble wrap, sometimes even with cardboard over paper and bubble wrap.
Paintings, Tvs, mirrors are wrapped in paper pads then they get inserted into painting , tv, mirror boxes.
By the end of the day all the house levels are filled with different types of boxes and the house is ready to be loaded.
Usually the packing day is scheduled separately from the loading day so that movers and packers do not interfere with each other.
- Loading day:
1 hour before the arrival the foreman call the customer to let them know the crew is on its way to the pick up address.
Depending on the size of the house there maybe 3, 4, 5 man crew to have the loadings done in 1 day.
Before any furniture is brought out of the house floor-runners are spread on every floor to avoid any dents or scratches when the loading process is underway.
1 professional mover start taking furniture apart. Normally it is 3 beds and a dinning table . Sometimes there are more items to take apart that often include an office L shape desk with tops, shelving units that do not come up from the basement as they were assembled there.
2 other members of the moving team concentrate themselves on wrapping the furniture up in moving pads.
1 mover is bringing boxes to the truck/trailer using a 2 wheel dolly sometimes 4 wheel dolly if there is a large piece of furniture is being dollied.
Since everything has been packed the process of loading goes smoothly. By the end of the loading the house is empty and the trailer is packed tight. The garage and the backyard items go last. Normally to load a shipment takes 6 to 12 hours depending on the house square footage and the number of movers.
- Province to Province Transportation across Canada
After loading the truck in Toronto we tell our customer when to expect the truck & trailer at the new house in Edmonton.
The drivers are allowed to drive not more than 13 hours a day, so the usual timing to deliver your items from Toronto to Edmonton or from Edmonton to Toronto takes 3-5 days and the driver will always give the customer 24 hour notice of his arrival.
- Unloading of the trailer/ truck in Edmonton.
The 4 man crew meets the truck at the destination point. They will get out the 16` ramps for the trailer and the porch and spread the floor – runners on the floors.
Following the labels or #s on the boxes the crew unloads the truck and the customer directs the crew members to put the items to a certain room or area.
Normally the unloading takes 15 -20 % less than loading.

Cost of movers from Toronto to Edmonton

It all started with great communication (both phone and email) and customer service from start - he updated or checked in with me every couple of hours on how the move was going, where his driver and our stuff was, even prior to our move when the crew got stuck in the ferry line-up from a job on Vancouver Island before us. 1) Communication prior to the move was excellent. Victor visited the house about a week before the move to view the contents - thus he was able to provide a good estimate and know how many guys to put on the job.
2) The actual move was top notch. 3 men carefully wrapped each piece of furniture and moved it into the truck with no scapes or dings in the walls or goods! It was a hot day and they worked methodically and efficiently.
3) At the destination the movers carefully delivered the boxes and furniture to the rooms clearly labeled on the items again without any damage to walls or floors.
The 3 movers were all delightful people; excellent communicators and friendly and polite.

They packed up my 5 bedroom house, stored our belongings for 6 weeks and then I got the same team to unload!!! No damage to any of the furniture which included antiques and no damage to either house!
Victor was the only company that had the option of allowing our contents to stay in the 48' trailer to avoid a double move. His prices are very reasonable.

I got a few quotes from accredited full service movers, prices were very high and they try to charge you for the weight of your items so you could end up with an actual bill that is much higher than the quote.
Victor provided an invoice that matched the quote exactly. It was not by weight.
Victor and his team very carefully protected all our furniture and items to prevent any damage.
Additionally it was the same crew that delivered our belongings in Quebec as did the packing. So there was no “sub contracting” at the destination which is fantastic.
Also note that many full service movers are not accredited with the BBB (better business bureau) and Canadian Association of movers). Real Estate movers are accredited with both.
Another excellent resource for home services is “Homestars”. Extremely reliable rating service.
Also, the packers reused boxes and a lot of labelling wasn’t very good with items not packed well. The move in was slow because the truck wasn’t loaded logically in order of room.
That being said. The driver and unloader worked without breaks to get things in and assembled and were happy to get things done for us with no hassle.
They offered to pickup the left behind items and deliver them to us at no charge. Stand up guys, thank you.
Not only did they deliver, they packed everything with care. All our belongings arrived intact, undamaged, and on time. Most importantly, the cost was AS INITIALLY QUOTED. Victor was very responsive throughout the move. He inspected our belongings in person to make the estimate. His team packed and handled our belongings with great care and efficiency. More fragile items were cushioned with blankets.
We had a time limit on our condo elevator booking, and his team finished loading the truck with lots of time to spare. The unloading team was just as proficient.
